AVID

Start your path to college in high school!  AVID is a four year selective enrollment college preparatory program focusing on writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading skills essential to success in high school and college. Students enroll in the AVID class for each year of high school. AVID is a class with challenging work  and dedicated teachers whose focus is on building knowledge and strengthening skills for students to be successful in their advanced level classes while providing support through tutorials. AVID holds tutorials twice a week in the classroom with college students as tutors. Tutorials involve collaborative skills and provide students with the opportunity to communicate effectively by asking questions.

The Thomas Kelly College Preparatory AVID program offers service and leadership opportunities, trips to colleges, completing the college application process, and applying to scholarships. 100% of AVID seniors are accepted into a four year college or university with past graduates remaining in college.  Several students have gone on to Western Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and Illinois State.  Finally, our AVID program offers one $5,000 and two $1,000 scholarships for junior and senior AVID students.
